Norway in a nutshell tour
A very nice day trip is what we call the “Norway in a nutshell tour”.
Cross the Skarnsund bridge and drive along Mosvik on the road to Leksvik.
Some 10 miles behind Mosvik, follow the gravel road to Verraboth which has magnificent sights of the fjord.
In Verraboth, continue westwards towards Leira/Rissa.
Upon arrival at the T-crossing, turn left to Rissa and then turn right to A i Afjord (Afjord). Turn left and after a few hundred yards leave the main road and take the detour to Rakvag, a scenic village with old houses build into the water. Here you should make your first coffee brake.
Return back to the main road and follow this towards A I Afjord. Having crossed the bridge in Afjord, turn right and follow the road up for less than a mile.
Park your car at the parking area at the Salmon Ladder. Enjoy spectacular views of Salmon trying to jump over the falls.
Return to the cosy village and drive left into the direction of Osen where high mountains and deep valleys are followed by terrific views of the thousands of islands and islets.
A great place to have a picknick.
Via Osen, you can make a small detour to lovely Sandvika. Follow the road to Namsen/Steinkjer. Just after Osen, you will see another nice waterfall . Further up, there is a high mountain plateau area with hundreds of small lakes and currents and peculiar vegetation including cloudberries.
